Elijah wasn't even sure what he was doing having any issues of any sort. He didn't have the right--reaching back out to Katherine had been foolish in the extreme. His heart was already torn, but letting it keep fixating on Hayley wasn't doing any of them any favors and was likely to get her killed. Shifting his focus back to Katherine had always worked in the past.
Admittedly, finding out about her current...predicament made it seem a little more important somehow. What he didn't understand was why she wouldn't let him try and help her, even. He owed her that much, surely?
He honestly didn't know what Castiel could do about it except provide an ear, wasn't sure he even wanted anything done, though his knowledge of the arcane was always useful. Elijah had been reading through Esther's grimoire, but so far nothing in there provided any assistance. But there was no way he could discuss it with anyone at the house: Rebekah would roll her eyes, Hayley would be hurt, Klaus would head to Virginia to kill Katherine.
So, here he was, settled in French 75 at Arnaud's in the Quarter, hoping no other vampires showed up (surely they were all too young to appreciate it?) and wondering why he kept letting his life get so complicated. Family above all. Klaus first. That's what he'd always sworn, what he'd vowed, what he owed.
Wanting more was just asking too much.
