Halloween Fun (For [livejournal.com profile] havenosecrets)

Elijah wasn't convinced that going to the Grill was the best choice he and Jenna could make, but it was Halloween and there was a party, and she needed to feel like there was some normalcy left in her life, changed as it was. Maybe Ric would stay away and they could avoid the awkwardness all together.

His luck really hadn't been that great, lately, though.

And the knowledge that Stefan was back in town didn't help.

Nevermind Rebekah, if that rumor was even true.

Klaus was gone, and Elijah had avoided him and Jenna was safe, so the worst was surely over, yes?

Maybe his luck was changing.

So, it was, that he put on the costume he'd picked out--Victorian elegance with sweeping long coat, leather waistcoat, goggles on his top hat and clockwork pieces dangling. He'd discovered Steampunk and he was in love. The science fiction element added to the era of clothing he'd always loved best was an impossible draw, even if he felt it was a little silly to get all excited about it. He hadn't been excited about anything in a long time.

...Except he was, admittedly, really excited about going out with Jenna, even if maybe it was a bad idea. He didn't belong here. Maybe he never would. But with her...maybe he could find a way toward some sort of sense of it for a little while, at least.

Finally dressed, he headed to her place, pausing on the porch and hesitating just a moment before ringing the bell and hoping Jenna would be the one to answer and not Elena.

"And how would I live with myself if I just turned away while you were in danger?"

"Hopefully for a very long time," he said with a tiny grimace.

"Not funny, Elijah." She commented dryly, shaking her head as she turned to open the door since the car felt a little crowded now. She wasn't pleased at the idea that he expected her to stand back and do nothing if his father came after him. Not that she thought she had a chance against an Original but that wasn't the point.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
He hadn't been joking, but dead serious, but given she was now annoyed, he didn't think that was something to point out. He let himself out, as well, unsure what to do.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
She moved in the blink of an eye as he closed the door of the car, moving from her side of the car to his so that she would be standing in front of him when he turned around.

"I'm sorry." She didn't want things to be tense between them and so she sighed. "Can we just agree to disagree for right now? We don't even know if they've found him." They would deal with it if Mikael ever showed up.

And Elijah would have to deal with her getting involved if he was in trouble, that much she was sure of.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
He watched her for a long moment, then nodded, giving her a crooked smile. This was supposed to be a fun night out at a party -- even though he didn't always remember how those went -- and their debut appearance as...whatever they were. His debut as her date, perhaps?

"I'm sorry, as well," he said quietly, hand coming up to cradle her cheek again. He bent his head and kissed her softly.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
She relaxed as he flashed the crooked smile that she was coming to adore. Flashing her own smile, she leaned up to kiss him back, curling a hand around the back of his neck so he wouldn't pull back too quickly.

When the kiss finally broke, she touched her forehead to his gently as she let out a little contented sigh. "Ready to go in?" She wasn't so sure she was.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Pulling back was the last thing on his mind--in fact, he was a little disappointed when the kiss did end, but he chided himself that most likely that was because, no, he wasn't ready to go in, or to think about his father or do anything else but see how quickly he could get her out of that costume.

Some of that flickered in his eyes as he smiled at her again. "As ready as I'll ever be..."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
How did he expect her to concentrate on normal things they should be doing when she could see certain thoughts crossing his mind. She had already considered how easy it would be to work around her costume, even in spite of the many details and intricate designs.

Her eyes darkened slightly as she leaned up to press another slower kiss to his mouth. "That didn't sound very convincing, Elijah." She murmured huskily, his name rolling silkily off of her tongue.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
He murmured something wordless, kissing her back slowly, tongue teasing against her bottom lip. The intensity of craving everything didn't get any better the older you got, even if he could control himself better.

"Maybe you should remind me why I should be convincing?"

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
But she was younger and so her control was much more shaky than his which was why she found it harder to pull back when he was teasing her. She made a soft noise as the hunger for him spiked but she still managed to give a soft laugh as she tilted her head back to look up at him.

"Reminding you to be convincing of what?"

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Of why we should go in rather than back to my place," he murmured, leaning back in to nibble at the corner of her lips. He gave a soft chuckle, letting his fingers ghost up the back of her corset, over the laces.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I would say we could just retreat to your car..." She trailed off with a teasing smirk, her hand brushing against his hip as she turned her head to let her lips ghost over his with a feather light touch.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm..." He nipped at her lower lip. "That could take the edge off getting through the rest of the night...."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course, the anticipation," She curled her arms around his shoulders with another slow kiss. "Could be a lot of fun too. See how long we could last." Yet another kiss had her eyes darkening.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes darkened a tiny bit, as well, hints of red in the darkness, as he pulled back from the kiss. "That does have a greater appeal, as well," he agreed, stepping back to take her hand and tug her toward the door.

If he didn't have her in the locked bathroom within an hour, he'd be shocked.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-07 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Jenna was going to give it a little less than an hour.

Stepping into the Grill, she paused with him as she looked over the crowd. It was no surprise to her that it was busy but the different costumes made it hard to peg who was who. Still, almost instantly, she felt eyes upon her and undoubtedly the man beside her.

Glancing across the room, she spotted one form that would always be recognizable to her. Elena stood a little straighter as they locked eyes and Jenna could see the question there as Elena also looked at Elijah.

"What's he doing here?" Jenna could hear the soft murmur of Caroline's voice as the blonde girl looked to Elena. They were standing together with Bonnie who remained quiet as she gave a thoughtful frown.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-07 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Elijah heard the murmur, as well. Bonnie's presence was a...complication he should have thought through, but he'd been more focused on Ric. He could still hear her promising to kill him, kill them both, when he didn't go through with killing Klaus.

He doubted her quest for vengeance was strong enough to give up her own life to do so, but one could never be certain.

He stared back at the three of them implacably, then shifted to slide a hand to Jenna's back. "Would you like a drink?" He nodded toward the bar, the opposite way from the girls.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Jenna gave her niece a quiet look, hoping Elena would understand that she had to keep Bonnie from doing anything foolish. She knew that Bonnie wasn't happy but they wouldn't have known that Jenna could come back without him.

"Yes, please." She turned her attention back to Elijah, smiling warmly as she walked with him. "Maybe a couple of them."

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Amen," he murmured, keeping his hand against her, not moving from her side as they moved through the crowd to the bar. He slid his fingers up her back, lightly teasing the ends of her hair, the touch meant as much a connection as something to keep him grounded with a little bit of possessiveness underneath it. Whatever they thought, she had chosen to be here with him tonight, even if part of him thought their disapproval might eventually drive her from his side.

And if they found Mikael, it might be best if it did, but. He wasn't going to think of that right now.

"What would you like?" he asked her, aware from the periphery of the girls shadowing them across the Grill, moving closer, but not quite sure about coming up to them, it seemed.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Truth to told, Jenna enjoyed the feel of his hand against her back and her smile grew as he lifted his fingers to toy with the ends of her hair. It helped her to feel connected and grounded as well, especially since she could sense that he was having moments of doubt. They had chosen to be there but she knew it had to make him somewhat uncomfortable to under the scrutinizing gaze of the girls. Was he worried about what they would say to her?

"Whiskey." She answered him with a warm smile. "What are you having?"

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
He was more worried about what their disapproval would do to her. He didn't want her to be hurt because of him, especially not by those she cared about. He'd done enough to cause her harm.

"Whiskey, as well, I think," he said, leaning in to brush a kiss over her temple. He leaned against the bar, flagging down the bartender and ordered them both a glass of whiskey.

A sense of another presence drew his attention while they waited, and he turned to find himself staring into a highly displeased pair of blue eyes.

"Damon." He shifted back to Jenna, arm sliding back around her a little more possessively.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Jenna felt a chill race down her spine as Elijah turned to greet Damon but she didn't let it show as she turned around to face him as well. "Damon."

She knew he wasn't going to be pleased to see Elijah there and probably more because of the fact that Damon and Ric were good friends. Glancing sideways, she looked for her ex-boyfriend but saw that Elena was quickly making her way towards them instead.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Jenna." Damon flicked a gaze at her, quick and assessing before shifting his attention back on Elijah. "What are you doing here?"

Elijah reached for the delivered whiskey, handing one to Jenna and taking a sip of his own. "I heard there was a party."

"You never struck me as the party type."

"You never bothered to get to know me well enough to find out."

Klaus had run off with Damon's brother. Elijah was sorry for that, but he wasn't really feeling particularly generous to the Salvatore brothers, no matter how sorry he might be for what had gone down.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Taking the drink from Elijah, she looked to Damon again. "I invited him."

"Damon." Elena joined the group, keeping her voice soft even as it held a note of warning for the Salvatore to behave. She looked a bit uneasy as she studied everyone for a second before offering a tight smile to the Original. "Hello, Elijah."

Then she looked at her aunt. "I like your outfit, Jenna."

"Thank you." Jenna managed a small smile, sipping her drink again as she looked at Damon and Elijah once more.
