Halloween Fun (For
havenosecrets)
Elijah wasn't convinced that going to the Grill was the best choice he and Jenna could make, but it was Halloween and there was a party, and she needed to feel like there was some normalcy left in her life, changed as it was. Maybe Ric would stay away and they could avoid the awkwardness all together.
His luck really hadn't been that great, lately, though.
And the knowledge that Stefan was back in town didn't help.
Nevermind Rebekah, if that rumor was even true.
Klaus was gone, and Elijah had avoided him and Jenna was safe, so the worst was surely over, yes?
Maybe his luck was changing.
So, it was, that he put on the costume he'd picked out--Victorian elegance with sweeping long coat, leather waistcoat, goggles on his top hat and clockwork pieces dangling. He'd discovered Steampunk and he was in love. The science fiction element added to the era of clothing he'd always loved best was an impossible draw, even if he felt it was a little silly to get all excited about it. He hadn't been excited about anything in a long time.
...Except he was, admittedly, really excited about going out with Jenna, even if maybe it was a bad idea. He didn't belong here. Maybe he never would. But with her...maybe he could find a way toward some sort of sense of it for a little while, at least.
Finally dressed, he headed to her place, pausing on the porch and hesitating just a moment before ringing the bell and hoping Jenna would be the one to answer and not Elena.

"Jenna." He turned, calling up the stairs before looking at Elijah once more. Strangely enough, the youth had never been one to hold a grudge but it seemed there was a warning on the tip of his tongue but it didn't come out. He was sure it didn't need to be said that he hoped Elijah would do a better job of keeping his aunt protected this time.
"Thanks, Jeremy." Jenna appeared at the top of the stairs with a smile as she brushed her long curls over one shoulder. She didn't know much about Steampunk but she couldn't deny that she rather liked the style just as much as she liked the outfit (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lsnnlunrSS1r433qgo2_250.jpg) she had picked out. It was sexy without being overly so and surprisingly comfortable even with the buckles that wrapped around the corset that she wore.
Looking to Elijah, she could tell that he was a bit nervous about going to the Grill but she hoped to put him at ease even if she was feeling a bit nervous herself. Ignoring the look from Jeremy, she smiled. "You look great."
no subject
He didn't intend to let anything else happen to her, ever.
He smiled at her easily, taking her her outfit with a very approving gaze he tried to keep at least not too hungry given her nephew's proximity. "Thank you. You look...positively stunning."
no subject
She paused, glancing towards Jeremy who was still lingering nearby watching them with a quiet gaze. She knew he wasn't the type to hold a grudge but she also knew how he felt about Ric. "Aren't you supposed to be meeting up with Matt?"
"Yeah." He nodded, casting one more glance at Elijah before he loped back up the stairs.
Finding themselves alone, Jenna turned back to her date with a smile. "So, are you ready to go?" It was a simple question but it also sounded like she was asking him if he really wanted to go still.
no subject
He waited for Jeremy to head back upstairs, and gave her another smile, coming a little closer. "I am." Whatever came--she wanted to go, and he'd go through with it, even if it got awkward. He'd dealt with far worse than awkward in his life.
no subject
She waited for Jeremy to disappear upstairs, listening for the click of his bedroom door, before she turned back to Elijah again. Watching him as he moved closer, her smile grew. "Good, I just need to grab my purse."
Moving to do just that, she considered the fact that she wanted to kiss him but she had that moment of doubt that made her not follow through on the urge. Which was rather stupid considering all that they had done the night she went to his home for drinking games. Picking up her purse, she turned back to him with a smile.
"You know, we don't have to stay long."
no subject
His smile was still easy, though, eyes not giving anything away. "We can stay as long as you like. I can't remember the last time I went to a Halloween party."
He was sure he must have at some point. Seeing she had her purse, he moved back to the door, getting it for her.
no subject
Still, she offered him an easy smile as she moved towards him. "Hmm, I'm not sure if I should feel bad for you or not." Going to a Halloween party wasn't at all new for her. In fact, going to any kind of party wasn't new for her but this situation would be as she was going with Elijah.
Stepping out onto the porch, she touched the goggles on top of her head to make sure they were in place while turning to face him again. As soon as the door was shut, she took the opportunity to steal a little kiss where she lingered before pulling back with a small smile. "Hi." She murmured softly, this greeting feeling more intimate than the one she had given him a couple minutes before.
no subject
Those were things he could ignore if she didn't want him pressing them on her. But when they got outside and she kissed him, he felt a little flicker of relief, and kissed her back, fingertips lifting to trace along her jaw.
"Hello," he murmured back.
no subject
She leaned lightly into his touch, still smiling as he returned the greeting. She pressed another quick kiss to his lips before stepping back. "Now we can go." She chuckled, starting towards the steps.
"So how are you?" She glanced over at him again. "Busy with renovations still?"
no subject
"I'm good," he said with a nod, as he led her to his car--a black Jaguar convertible (http://image.automotive.com/f/exotic-cars/2007-jaguar-xkr-ranked-1-for-best-road-trip-car/6458016+w440+cr1+re0+ar1/2007-jaguar-xkr-top-front-leftjpg.jpg) just flashy and nice enough to get noticed, but not quite outlandish enough as driving the Lamborghini would have been. "And, yes. I've had contractors in all week--there's dust everywhere, but it's starting to look reasonably livable."
He opened the car door for her, giving her a smile. "How are you doing?"
no subject
"Wow." She murmured, looking impressed as she eyed the sleek lines with a small smile. She wasn't really much of a car girl but she had to admit that it was definitely one of the nicest cars she had ever seen.
Trying to focus on what he was saying, she nodded. "Do you have electricity yet?" Not that she minded the candles and the fireplace. In fact, she wouldn't be against the idea of keeping the lights of sometimes.
Flashing a warm smile, she slid down into the seat as he held the door open. "I'm okay." She waited as he shut the door and moved around the car to join her. "Things have been a bit crazy lately." She admitted, thinking of all that had happened. Not that she had been involved in a lot of it but she had heard about it from Elena.
no subject
He waited until he slid into his own seat before answering her question. "I do have some--but not working throughout the whole house." He shrugged a little and gave her a wry smile. "Things never really seem to be that calm around here."
no subject
"Isn't that the truth." She commented wryly, nodding her head. "And that was before I knew about everything that was actually happening." She studied him for a moment, wondering if she should bring up what was going on or leave it for now. She didn't want to ruin their night but she didn't want him to be blind-sided either. Though, this was Elijah. There was a good chance that wouldn't happen.
Still, as his friend, she had to ask. "How much do you know about what's happening?"
no subject
He glanced at her with an arched eyebrow, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. "I know Klaus was here, that he left Stefan behind." His eyes flickered darkly for a moment. "And Rebekah."
Who he was mildly concerned about seeing. Her loyalty still ran toward Klaus, but then she didn't know the truth. It was possible he'd have to tell her, though he'd never wanted to.
"What else?"
no subject
"That's really about it as far as I know." She frowned. "Well, Klaus was here and, before he left, he turned off Stefan's humanity. Elena has been trying to figure out how to get it back."
"I wanted to make sure you knew about Rebekah." A slight pause. "Are you going to be okay seeing her?" Since they both knew there was a pretty good chance that she would be at the Halloween party.
no subject
He shifted his hand to wrap his fingers around hers. "I'll be all right. Rebekah and I were close, once upon a time. I don't hold my issues with Klaus against her."
He hadn't had the heart to tell her what he'd found out, even. He didn't want her to be shattered...and he'd never thought Klaus would hurt her. How he'd been that naive, he didn't know.
no subject
Curling her fingers around his own, she nodded with a faint smile as he reassured her that he didn't have a problem with his sister. She just thought that it would be best if he knew.
no subject
"...It really worked?"
no subject
She let him digest the information before she finally sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm bringing the mood down but I felt I should tell you." Since she knew no one else would be rushing to tell him anything.
no subject
And Jenna, as well.
no subject
It pissed her off that she had failed in protecting Elena again but Damon had managed to save her this time.
no subject
"So, now he has to keep her safe." It was the logical deduction. "At least until he has...whatever he'll consider enough hybrids."
no subject
"Yes, which is why he left Stefan behind. He is supposed to protect her." Which she knew was harder for Elena in some ways. Harder than not having any idea where Stefan was because then she still knew that he at least had his humanity. Now it was thrown in her face every day that he didn't.
no subject
"That must be difficult for her." Though it put Elena in a great deal of danger--she was the one thing keeping Klaus's dream of creating an army of hybrids alive. Funny how the world shifted.
no subject
"It scares me because I wish she could just walk away from it but she won't." So she'd always be in danger.
