Halloween Fun (For [livejournal.com profile] havenosecrets)

Elijah wasn't convinced that going to the Grill was the best choice he and Jenna could make, but it was Halloween and there was a party, and she needed to feel like there was some normalcy left in her life, changed as it was. Maybe Ric would stay away and they could avoid the awkwardness all together.

His luck really hadn't been that great, lately, though.

And the knowledge that Stefan was back in town didn't help.

Nevermind Rebekah, if that rumor was even true.

Klaus was gone, and Elijah had avoided him and Jenna was safe, so the worst was surely over, yes?

Maybe his luck was changing.

So, it was, that he put on the costume he'd picked out--Victorian elegance with sweeping long coat, leather waistcoat, goggles on his top hat and clockwork pieces dangling. He'd discovered Steampunk and he was in love. The science fiction element added to the era of clothing he'd always loved best was an impossible draw, even if he felt it was a little silly to get all excited about it. He hadn't been excited about anything in a long time.

...Except he was, admittedly, really excited about going out with Jenna, even if maybe it was a bad idea. He didn't belong here. Maybe he never would. But with her...maybe he could find a way toward some sort of sense of it for a little while, at least.

Finally dressed, he headed to her place, pausing on the porch and hesitating just a moment before ringing the bell and hoping Jenna would be the one to answer and not Elena.

"It did." She confirmed once more. "Tyler Lockwood."

She let him digest the information before she finally sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm bringing the mood down but I felt I should tell you." Since she knew no one else would be rushing to tell him anything.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
He shook his head a little, dismissing her apology. "I'm better at keeping on top of things, usually. I just never thought he'd make it work, not with Elena still alive."

And Jenna, as well.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, it turns out that Klaus wasn't supposed to kill the doppelganger. He was supposed to use her blood to complete the transition, from what I understand."

It pissed her off that she had failed in protecting Elena again but Damon had managed to save her this time.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
"That was...very clever of her," Elijah said, half to himself. All they'd studied, everything any witch had told them, they'd never quite figured that part out.

"So, now he has to keep her safe." It was the logical deduction. "At least until he has...whatever he'll consider enough hybrids."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Of who?" She tilted her head curiously. "Of the witch who originally cursed him?"

"Yes, which is why he left Stefan behind. He is supposed to protect her." Which she knew was harder for Elena in some ways. Harder than not having any idea where Stefan was because then she still knew that he at least had his humanity. Now it was thrown in her face every day that he didn't.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Elijah said softly, a flicker of pain there in his eyes and gone.

"That must be difficult for her." Though it put Elena in a great deal of danger--she was the one thing keeping Klaus's dream of creating an army of hybrids alive. Funny how the world shifted.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"It is." Jenna sighed, brushing her thumb against his. "I'm amazed at how she's handling it all. She's a lot stronger than I've ever realized." Which Jenna was sure was a trait that her and her niece didn't share.

"It scares me because I wish she could just walk away from it but she won't." So she'd always be in danger.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
"There's nowhere she could go Klaus wouldn't find her. Katerina only managed to hide with a lot of help from a lot of powerful people--Elena hasn't her ruthlessness or her willingness to do whatever's needed to make those alliances," he said seriously.

"Better to search for a different solution."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Jenna wasn't so sure on the alliance part since Elena had made an alliance with him but he was right about the ruthlessness. Elena would never sacrifice anyone that she cared about. She wasn't as self serving as Katherine. Jenna knew that Elena would sacrifice only herself to save other people.

"But she has a lot of other people who are ruthless and willing to do anything to save her." She paused before continuing, still watching him closely. "I think the plan is still to kill Klaus."

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
And he'd let her down. Katerina had never believed he'd be able to kill Klaus. Even now he had to question it, whether he could have pulled his brother's heart out in the end, even if Klaus hadn't made his gambit. He'd felt sure, felt the certainty of his purpose. Vengeance had driven him as surely as anything else.

But how he'd have lived with himself after was something he still didn't know.

"There isn't any other way to free Stefan," he said, eyes fastening back on the road. "Of course that's the plan."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No matter how she felt about Klaus, she couldn't forget that he was Elijah's brother. Yes, he had sworn to kill him but they all knew how that had turned out. She figured it wasn't as easy as he had thought it would be and not just because of his family.

"Still, it can't be easy to hear." She guessed, squeezing his hand gently.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He was quiet for a long few moments as he drove, looking like he was concentrating on the road, though his mind was a million miles away.

"Klaus made his choices. He's never believed consequences applied to him. I knew it was only a matter of time..." But he wasn't going to volunteer anything to help, not again. Perhaps he should have been bent more on his brother's destruction, but it wasn't that easy. With Klaus...it never had been.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Jenna couldn't believe the words that were going to come out of her mouth but she had to ask. Maybe only for his sake. "Is there any other way to stop him?" She asked softly.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Elijah frowned, then shrugged slightly, pulling the car into a parking space. "I don't know. Once upon a time, I would have said to appeal to him, to try and change his mind, but Klaus is nearly as stubborn as Rebekah when he sets his mind on something."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
She wondered about the whole humanity thing since one could guess that Klaus was operating without it but what would happen to him if they somehow got him to turn his on? Just like Elena was hoping to do with Stefan, like he had somehow managed to do before?

"Are you concerned about your other family?" She asked, tucking some hair back from her face.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Elijah would have told her he didn't consider Klaus to have turned off his humanity. No one could, really, in the long run. It just...perspective changed a great deal. And he was consumed by his rage--for very human reasons, ones Elijah wouldn't even say that he didn't understood.

He did, all too well.

"Always. I don't know where Klaus is keeping them, or how they may be. I should...talk to Rebekah, I suppose."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I will help you find them."

Jenna didn't really know what help she could offer but that didn't mean she wouldn't try. If anyone understood wanting to be with family, she did. She would do anything in her power to find Elena and Jeremy if they were ever taken away from her.

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Elijah gave her a surprised look. Yes, he knew how important family was to all of them--it was the only hope he had of them not hating him for not killing Klaus--but he somehow hadn't ever really expected it to extend into an offer of help for that most dear to him.

"You will?" he asked softly. "I have no idea what he's done with any of them, but...I know my father disappeared last." He wasn't entirely sure Klaus had a hand in that, truly. The idea of Klaus besting him was hard to conceive. "If you are looking for someone to stand against Klaus...it would be he, but it is also possible that finding him might not be the best idea." As he understood Klaus, so too did he understand Mikael, but...of the two he wasn't certain who was the greater threat to their way of life. They were both just as likely to kill those Elijah sought to protect. Only Mikael would be the far greater threat to Jenna's family than Klaus. Elena had what he needed. Mikael would do anything to see him not get it, likely.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"While the idea of having someone to stand against Klaus is appealing," And it was an added bonus to helping him find his family, hopefully. "I want to help you to give you some peace of mind."

"Why would it not be the best idea?" She asked softly, tilting her head to the side as she leaned against the door of the car and continued to watch him quietly. "What's your father like?"

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you," he said, giving her a slight smile, still somewhat in awe that she might care enough even for that. It had...been a long time since anyone did.

He sighed and leaned against his own door, looking at her more seriously. "My father's temper makes Klaus's look tame. It's sometimes hard to believe they are not related, truly. He is one of us, true, but he is also a hunter. He doesn't feed on humans, he feeds on vampires. And he kills them."

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Jenna got a thoughtful look on her face as she brushed her fingers over the hem of her skirt, playing with the ruffled edges. "What was...is his name?

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-05 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mikael," Elijah answered after a pause, watching her.

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Mikael?" Jenna's eyes widened in surprise. "Your father is Mikael?"

[identity profile] manof-myword.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Elijah confirmed, worry flashing in his eyes. "You've heard of him?"

[identity profile] havenosecrets.livejournal.com 2011-11-06 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
"They're looking for him, right now. I think they might be very close to finding him if they haven't already." Now it was Jenna's turn to look worried.
