Halloween Fun (For
havenosecrets)
Elijah wasn't convinced that going to the Grill was the best choice he and Jenna could make, but it was Halloween and there was a party, and she needed to feel like there was some normalcy left in her life, changed as it was. Maybe Ric would stay away and they could avoid the awkwardness all together.
His luck really hadn't been that great, lately, though.
And the knowledge that Stefan was back in town didn't help.
Nevermind Rebekah, if that rumor was even true.
Klaus was gone, and Elijah had avoided him and Jenna was safe, so the worst was surely over, yes?
Maybe his luck was changing.
So, it was, that he put on the costume he'd picked out--Victorian elegance with sweeping long coat, leather waistcoat, goggles on his top hat and clockwork pieces dangling. He'd discovered Steampunk and he was in love. The science fiction element added to the era of clothing he'd always loved best was an impossible draw, even if he felt it was a little silly to get all excited about it. He hadn't been excited about anything in a long time.
...Except he was, admittedly, really excited about going out with Jenna, even if maybe it was a bad idea. He didn't belong here. Maybe he never would. But with her...maybe he could find a way toward some sort of sense of it for a little while, at least.
Finally dressed, he headed to her place, pausing on the porch and hesitating just a moment before ringing the bell and hoping Jenna would be the one to answer and not Elena.

She let him digest the information before she finally sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm bringing the mood down but I felt I should tell you." Since she knew no one else would be rushing to tell him anything.
no subject
And Jenna, as well.

It pissed her off that she had failed in protecting Elena again but Damon had managed to save her this time.

"So, now he has to keep her safe." It was the logical deduction. "At least until he has...whatever he'll consider enough hybrids."
no subject
"Yes, which is why he left Stefan behind. He is supposed to protect her." Which she knew was harder for Elena in some ways. Harder than not having any idea where Stefan was because then she still knew that he at least had his humanity. Now it was thrown in her face every day that he didn't.
no subject
"That must be difficult for her." Though it put Elena in a great deal of danger--she was the one thing keeping Klaus's dream of creating an army of hybrids alive. Funny how the world shifted.
no subject
"It scares me because I wish she could just walk away from it but she won't." So she'd always be in danger.
no subject
"Better to search for a different solution."
no subject
"But she has a lot of other people who are ruthless and willing to do anything to save her." She paused before continuing, still watching him closely. "I think the plan is still to kill Klaus."
no subject
But how he'd have lived with himself after was something he still didn't know.
"There isn't any other way to free Stefan," he said, eyes fastening back on the road. "Of course that's the plan."
no subject
"Still, it can't be easy to hear." She guessed, squeezing his hand gently.
no subject
"Klaus made his choices. He's never believed consequences applied to him. I knew it was only a matter of time..." But he wasn't going to volunteer anything to help, not again. Perhaps he should have been bent more on his brother's destruction, but it wasn't that easy. With Klaus...it never had been.

"Are you concerned about your other family?" She asked, tucking some hair back from her face.
no subject
He did, all too well.
"Always. I don't know where Klaus is keeping them, or how they may be. I should...talk to Rebekah, I suppose."
no subject
Jenna didn't really know what help she could offer but that didn't mean she wouldn't try. If anyone understood wanting to be with family, she did. She would do anything in her power to find Elena and Jeremy if they were ever taken away from her.
no subject
"You will?" he asked softly. "I have no idea what he's done with any of them, but...I know my father disappeared last." He wasn't entirely sure Klaus had a hand in that, truly. The idea of Klaus besting him was hard to conceive. "If you are looking for someone to stand against Klaus...it would be he, but it is also possible that finding him might not be the best idea." As he understood Klaus, so too did he understand Mikael, but...of the two he wasn't certain who was the greater threat to their way of life. They were both just as likely to kill those Elijah sought to protect. Only Mikael would be the far greater threat to Jenna's family than Klaus. Elena had what he needed. Mikael would do anything to see him not get it, likely.
no subject
"Why would it not be the best idea?" She asked softly, tilting her head to the side as she leaned against the door of the car and continued to watch him quietly. "What's your father like?"
no subject
He sighed and leaned against his own door, looking at her more seriously. "My father's temper makes Klaus's look tame. It's sometimes hard to believe they are not related, truly. He is one of us, true, but he is also a hunter. He doesn't feed on humans, he feeds on vampires. And he kills them."
