Halloween Fun (For havenosecrets)

Elijah wasn't convinced that going to the Grill was the best choice he and Jenna could make, but it was Halloween and there was a party, and she needed to feel like there was some normalcy left in her life, changed as it was. Maybe Ric would stay away and they could avoid the awkwardness all together.

His luck really hadn't been that great, lately, though.

And the knowledge that Stefan was back in town didn't help.

Nevermind Rebekah, if that rumor was even true.

Klaus was gone, and Elijah had avoided him and Jenna was safe, so the worst was surely over, yes?

Maybe his luck was changing.

So, it was, that he put on the costume he'd picked out--Victorian elegance with sweeping long coat, leather waistcoat, goggles on his top hat and clockwork pieces dangling. He'd discovered Steampunk and he was in love. The science fiction element added to the era of clothing he'd always loved best was an impossible draw, even if he felt it was a little silly to get all excited about it. He hadn't been excited about anything in a long time.

...Except he was, admittedly, really excited about going out with Jenna, even if maybe it was a bad idea. He didn't belong here. Maybe he never would. But with her...maybe he could find a way toward some sort of sense of it for a little while, at least.

Finally dressed, he headed to her place, pausing on the porch and hesitating just a moment before ringing the bell and hoping Jenna would be the one to answer and not Elena.

"I will help you find them."

Jenna didn't really know what help she could offer but that didn't mean she wouldn't try. If anyone understood wanting to be with family, she did. She would do anything in her power to find Elena and Jeremy if they were ever taken away from her.

Elijah gave her a surprised look. Yes, he knew how important family was to all of them--it was the only hope he had of them not hating him for not killing Klaus--but he somehow hadn't ever really expected it to extend into an offer of help for that most dear to him.

"You will?" he asked softly. "I have no idea what he's done with any of them, but...I know my father disappeared last." He wasn't entirely sure Klaus had a hand in that, truly. The idea of Klaus besting him was hard to conceive. "If you are looking for someone to stand against Klaus...it would be he, but it is also possible that finding him might not be the best idea." As he understood Klaus, so too did he understand Mikael, but...of the two he wasn't certain who was the greater threat to their way of life. They were both just as likely to kill those Elijah sought to protect. Only Mikael would be the far greater threat to Jenna's family than Klaus. Elena had what he needed. Mikael would do anything to see him not get it, likely.

"While the idea of having someone to stand against Klaus is appealing," And it was an added bonus to helping him find his family, hopefully. "I want to help you to give you some peace of mind."

"Why would it not be the best idea?" She asked softly, tilting her head to the side as she leaned against the door of the car and continued to watch him quietly. "What's your father like?"

"Thank you," he said, giving her a slight smile, still somewhat in awe that she might care enough even for that. It had...been a long time since anyone did.

He sighed and leaned against his own door, looking at her more seriously. "My father's temper makes Klaus's look tame. It's sometimes hard to believe they are not related, truly. He is one of us, true, but he is also a hunter. He doesn't feed on humans, he feeds on vampires. And he kills them."

Jenna got a thoughtful look on her face as she brushed her fingers over the hem of her skirt, playing with the ruffled edges. "What was...is his name?

"Mikael," Elijah answered after a pause, watching her.

"Mikael?" Jenna's eyes widened in surprise. "Your father is Mikael?"

"Yes," Elijah confirmed, worry flashing in his eyes. "You've heard of him?"

"They're looking for him, right now. I think they might be very close to finding him if they haven't already." Now it was Jenna's turn to look worried.

"That could be really very bad for all of us, Jenna." He wasn't kidding. And for once, probably the first time ever that she'd seen, he looked a little scared.

Seeing that hint of fear on his face was unsettling to Jenna and it scared her. "How do we stop them?" She wet her lips.

"You have to convince them it isn't worth it," he said, leaning toward her, voice urgent.

"What if we're too late?" She looked uneasy, glancing towards the Grill as though she almost expected to see this Mikael waiting there for them. "What if they've already found him?"

Elijah made a little face and said something he never wanted to say, but which...even Klaus had been smart enough to do.

"Then the best thing we could do is leave."

"Do you think he'll kill us too?" He had said that his father fed on vampires after all. "Would he kill you?"

"I don't know. It's...highly possible," he admitted, looking down, taking a breath to try and steady the sudden racing of his heart. "In his mind, I betrayed him when I chose Klaus's side over his. That I later ... amended my position against Klaus doesn't mean I went back to him, or that he's forgiven me."

He'd once been the favored son. He had no thought that might be the same now.

"Don't you think it's possible to reason with him?" It really didn't sound like it though and so she sighed. "I can't just leave Elena and Jeremy. And you know Elena won't leave Stefan or Damon."

"I don't know," he said, shaking his head. "Once upon a time, I would have said yes, but he has spent the years on a quest for vengeance, as determined to destroy so many things--just like Klaus." He reached out to touch her cheek. "I won't leave you alone."

"Elijah." She said his name softly, leaning into his hand as her eyes fluttered closed just for a second. Lifting her hand to cover his, she savoured his touch before opening her eyes to give him an imploring look. "If you're in danger, I don't want you here. You could go somewhere till he leaves. We won't give him any idea that you're here or anywhere nearby."

He kept his hand on her skin, brushing fingers back and forth over her skin. "I'm the only one with a chance of reasoning with him. But if he comes...I want you to pretend we don't know each other all that well. Hopefully...he won't even notice you." Which was meant as a "because you're so young" not anything about her not being noticeable. Which she totally was.

"You think I'll be in more danger because of you?" She asked softly, arching a brow. "What if he finds out that Klaus made me a vampire?"

"He won't hold that against you, if he knows you were part of the sacrifice," Elijah reasoned. "But if he thinks that I...if he were to find out about our...involvement, he might take it amiss, depending on how angry he is with me."

"I won't say anything but I won't just stand by if he tries to hurt or kill you." She warned him softly, shaking her head as she brushed her fingers over the back of his wrist.

"You will not do anything to interfere if he comes after me," Elijah said, eyes darkening in worry, and a near command in his voice. He wasn't compelling her, yet, but he was not above it by any means.

Instantly she was frowning at him as he told her that she wouldn't interfere. "How can you expect me to just stand back?"
